Mr. Lawrence T. Sneed, a native of Birmingham, was born on Friday, October 22, 1943.   He attended public school and was drafted in the United States Army.  He was reared in a community affectionately known as Mississippi Town.

Lawrence confessed Christ at an early age and joined in fellowship with Bethel Baptist Church under the late Rev. Cleavern Bryant.

At Bethel, he served in the Number 2 Choir.  He then became the choir director for St. John Baptist Church (Pratt City).  Finally, joining in with the Birmingham Community Choir in 1969 and become one of the music directors.

​

In 1980, Lawrence was elected president of the choir.  He later was appointed as Assistant Chapter Representative by the National Board of the GMWA.   IN 2000, he was appointed Chapter Representative.  He led the Birmingham Chapter with dignity and honor, following the blueprint of his predecessor, Mrs. Mary Kinds Elsaw.

Mr. Sneed entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
